Childhood, disability and violence
Empowering disability organisations to develop prevention strategies
The project, funded by the European Commission under the Daphne Programme, aims at preventing violence in families of children with complex physical and multiple disabilities, especially where the children are the victims.
The network of disability related organisations promoting the project, recognises the specific role and responsibility that local associations and social cooperatives have in detecting, describing and preventing the phenomena.
A booklet has been written to support local leadership in raising awareness (often this means breaking a taboo) within and outside the organisation and developing prevention strategies in close collaboration with formally responsible institutions. The booklet includes background information and guidelines for issue-related networking with institutional policy makers in governmental health, education and social services.
