Strengthening families of children with disabilities to prevent maltreatment

Maltreatment of children with disabilities in the domestic environment is a complex issue, of global concern, that affects all socio-economic groups.
In advancing the concept of prevention we focus on protective factors as corner stones for the construction of prevention strategies. We want to move away from the prejudice that disability automatically leads to situations of tension, depression and risk and suggest exploring the individual, family and community resources that can be developed for preventative purposes.

An international consortium of disability related nongovernmental non-profit organisations has been working together with us on the issue of the prevention of violence against children in the domestic environment since 2002.
